The architecture of Lanzarote was carefully planned by Cesar Manrique. In the countryside buildings can be no taller than two stories. In larger villages three stories is permitted, and 5 stories is allowed in the capital. The exterior of the buildings must be white or beige. The trim must be green, brown, or blue.
